I know that when you have children you tend to put them first. Well, today you are going to learn how you can start putting in some you time. Regular workouts can bring peace to your mind and fitness to your body. Just follow these few simple tips I have listed below and you will be well on to your way to the pre-baby bod you once had.

8 Ways to fit in a workout:

  1. Exercise with your kids: If your kids are old enough to ride bikes or rollerblade, have them do this while you run. Yo can take family hikes or even make up a fitness routine for the backyard…For example, you can set up jump rope, jumping jack and push-up stations.
  2. Sign up for parent-baby yoga classes: These classes, if offered in your area, can help build strength and stamina, reduce stress and provides opportunity for bonding time with your kid/kids.
  3. Improvise: If you missed your aerobic classes or yoga classes, you can pop in a fitness video and remember, don’t get all bent out of shape if you don’t get the best workout in every time…doing something is always better than doing nothing!
  4. Purchase some exercise videos: Before you commit to buying any videos, try renting them at the local video store to see which ones you like the best. Try anything from yoga, pilates, low-impact aerobics and kickboxing. These types of workout videos require little equipment and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
  5. Invest in a jogging stroller or a “kid trailer” for your bike: When your pushing or pulling one of these things you will be sure to get a great workout. One of the current trends is StrollerFit classes, where parents are taught how to utilize their strollers for a cadiovascular workout and strength building workout.
  6. Join a gym with child care: Gyms with this service offer great convienence! You can work out while your kid has fun in the play room. Some gyms even have kid aerobic classes, what a great concept!
  7. Strap baby to you in a baby carrier: Adding 10-20 pounds to your frame while working out will burst the calorie burn to help you shed those last couple of pounds. An added benefit…babies love to be held close to you, touching enhances brain development in babies.
  8. Most importantly, put exercise on your “to do” list: Make workout out a priority! If that means you need to wake up an hour earlier, than so be it! It will pay off in the long run.
